Couples Counselling

Couple or relationship counselling is when I work with two individuals in one session on a particular issue that is affecting their relationship. I work alongside the couple and seek to help them to understand what is going on in their relationship and then will endeavour to help them to work through these difficulties to find some resolution for them.

I have found that at times couples are unsure about what is going on between them, but they know that they feel unhappy in their relationship. Sometimes at the start of therapy one of the couple may not feel ready to go and see a counsellor. If this is the case then that’s ok because it is still possible to start working with one of you first of all and then may progress to couple couselling when both parties are happy to do so.

Reasons for seeking couple or relationship counselling

There can be many reasons why lovers, family members, friends or colleagues seek counselling. The following list are the most common reasons why couples seek help:

  • Abuse and control
  • Conflict
  • Communicating issues
  • Family issues
  • Feeling disrespected
  • Feeling unworthy
  • Frustration and anger
  • Intimacy issues
  • Lack of confidence
  • Life crises
  • Life dissatisfaction
  • Loneliness
  • Sexual issues
  • Stress
  • Trust issues

The above list provides a number of the most common issues that I work with, but this is not an exhaustive list. If your situation is different from those listed above then please do get in touch and let me know what your concerns are and I’ll get back to you to let you know whether I can help.
